SPRING SHOW
OVERVIEW
To recognize the hard work, sweat, and maybe tears, the Spring Show is an annual celebration of the Sacramento State’s Department of Design graduating class. The event highlights a culmination of the students’ works from disciplines across Design Studies, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, and Photography.
To promote the event and ensure a smooth event day print materials, wayfinding solutions, and a website design were needed.

Developing the Concept
To develop the concept for this year’s Spring Show theme, capturing the crossovers of the four disciplines was key. Through comparative analysis of similar events from design schools like RISD and Boston University, I was able to trace major themes that relate to big life events. By seeing how others’ theme their show, the idea of Materialize came into fruition.

Creative Visions & Tangible Outputs
Materialize embodies the concept of turning our creative visions into a physical form and sharing them with the world. Whether students are studying design, graphic design, interior architecture, or photography, each person in the program is highly imaginative and capable of translating their ideas into a form. Through their bold and imaginative concepts, they are able to put forth transformation in our communities with the work the program produces. The idea of pixels coming together to create a tangible form represents the essence of materializing–an idea taking shape into an impactful form.

Materializing in a Digital Space
A website acts as a catch-all for all the event information, a place where visitors can get all their questions answered for the event. The Spring Show website includes the location and directions on how to get there; including way finding maps on how to navigate the University Union. To highlight the graduating classes work, visitors are also able to view their websites or social media links.

Navigating the Sac State Campus & the Union
Navigating a college campus is not an easy task. On the website, the address to the Hornet Bookstore was provided to easily locate the closest parking near the University Union, Parking Structure One. As the visitors step outside of the structure, they are greeted with an a-frame sign with directions navigating to the Union.
Once visitors reach the designated rooms for each discipline, they would be able to verify which room by looking at the screens that mention the room name and the corresponding discipline.
